Hercules Hold

  • Athletes will hold as long as possible; longest time wins.
  • No grip aids allowed besides chalk.
  • Mouser Power’s Deep Waters Hercules Holds will be used.

Weight Over Bar

  • Athletes will throw a traditional Highland Games weight with one hand over a bar that rises higher each round. Highest throw wins.
  • Athletes will have 60sec to get the weight over any given height. If unsuccessful, the athlete is at that point eliminated. Athlete may also be asked to exit the field if the referee feels he/she is stalling.
  • 3 heights allowed per competitor
  • Standing throw only; spinning techniques are not allowed

Stones of the North

  • When Bill Kazmaier went to Scotland to lift the Inver Stone, the original challenge was simply to hoist to chest height. Kaz, not satisfied with this, took it up to his massive shoulders, and then pressed it overhead. The Stones of the North honor this feat.
  • Athlete with have 60sec to load, shoulder, or press an Atlas Stone as many times as possible.
  • Loading is worth 1 point. Shouldering the stone is worth 5 points. Pressing the stone is worth 20 points! Most points wins.
  • No tacky. No spray tack. No tacky towels. Do it like our ancestors did for thousands of years.

Celtic Pole Push

  • Athletes will have 30sec to try to maneuver their opponent outside of the 20ft border circle by pushing against a 10ft pole that both athletes are holding onto.
  • Athletes may not physically contact each other, touch any part of the body except the feet to the ground, or leave the border circle, lest the bout be awarded to the opponent. Pulling is also prohibited.
  • The exact tournament format will be determined once the entries are all received, but we will do our best to make sure everyone gets to face more than one opponent. (winner/loser bracket style)
  • Sleeves, a single belt, gloves, and wrist wraps are legal. Cleats are prohibited. Boots are recommended because regular shoes may blow out. It happened people, it happened.

Claymore Front Hold

  • “Claymore” means “great sword” in Gaelic, and this enormous blade was used by the Highland clans of Scotland for around 300 years. The deadly arc of the claymore cleaved through the forces of the Celts’ enemies, perhaps even as late as 1689 against William of Orange. Tremendous strength was required to employ such a massive weapon effectively, and thus we honor the Scottish Claymore and its history with this challenge.
  • Sword is to be held with both hands, arms outstretched with elbows extended, as long as possible; longest time wins.
  • Elbows must remain straight, top of fists must remain level with top of deltoids or your time will stop
  • Butt, upper back, and head must remain in contact with the wall you’ll be leaning against. Failure to do so will result in stoppage of your time.
  • Incidental infractions will be met with a referee warning. An incidental infraction is a movement violation of 2 inches or less. Failure to adjust to a proper position immediately, and/or repeated offenses will result in a stoppage of your time.

Dinnie Stone Carry

  • In 1860, the Scottish super-man Donald Dinnie approached two gigantic stones used as counterweights for scaffolding in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Dinnie lifted the mammoth stones by the metal rings that had been implanted, and carried them simultaneously across the Potarch Bridge. The combined weight of these expansive boulders was an astonishing 733 pounds.
  • 60 sec to finish the course, fastest time wins
  • Unlimited drops are allowed. If you do not finish, you will be credited with distance
  • Athletes will grab a circular handle in each hand, pick up the stones via said handles, and attempt to maneuver them down the course. No dragging, rolling, or otherwise manipulating the stones forward beyond carrying is allowed.
  • 34’ 3”up and 34’ 3” back. That’s double the length of the Potarch Bridge up, and the same distance back.
  • Straps are not allowed. One belt, wrist wraps, and sleeves are allowed.
  • No grip aids beyond chalk are allowed.

General Rules/Usual Mouser Stuff

  • In the event of a tie in the final standings, a tie breaker event will be held. No countback absolutely necessary!
  • Sportsmanship is expected and required. This is the greatest sport in the world, let’s keep it that way.
  • This is a drug free contest. If you are juiced feel free to come cheer on your buddies but please do not bother to sign up.
  • If you have a question, please ask! I would rather take a minute to clarify something than to see someone have a poor showing due to a misunderstanding.
