Strongest Man/Woman in the Forest X

October 1, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

It’s finally here, the tenth anniversary of the contest that started it all. A decade ago less than a dozen brave souls ventured into the unknown and pioneered the sport of strongman in WV. Join us this year as we celebrate ten years of strength at the Mountain State Forest Festival with bigger and better events, prizes, and surprises than ever before.

Fingal’s Fingers

  • Athletes will have 75sec to flip the pole as many times as possible. Most flips wins.
  • Split times will be taken so that rep ties can be broken. Example: Jim does 3 flips and Joe does 3 as well, but Jim is faster. Jim wins.
  • Elbow sleeves & knee sleeves (without buckling mechanisms), a single belt, and wrist wraps are legal.

Max Log

  • Athletes will have 30sec to make a successful lift each round. There is no limit on how many attempts can be made in those 30sec. Log is to be lifted from the ground to the overhead position while standing.
  • Each athlete may lift or pass on any given weight. Once you miss a weight, you are “out” and will be credited with your highest successful attempt. The athlete is responsible for maintaining his/her position in the rotation; failure to do so may result in disqualification from the event.
  • Athletes must wait for the “down” signal to receive credit for their lift. To receive the signal, the feet must not be staggered, must be shoulder width or narrower, and must not be moving. The elbows and knees must be locked, and the hips must be extended with the log overhead and steady.
  • In the event of a tie, the athlete that took less attempts to reach the weight will receive the higher placing
  • Elbow sleeves & knee sleeves (without buckling mechanisms), a single belt, and wrist wraps are legal.

Pole Push

  • Athletes will have 30sec to try to maneuver their opponent outside of the 20ft border circle by pushing against a 10ft pole that both athletes are holding onto.
  • Athletes may not physically contact each other, touch any part of the body except the feet to the ground, or leave the border circle, lest the bout be awarded to the opponent. Pulling is also prohibited.
  • The exact tournament format will be determined once the entries are all received, but we will do our best to make sure everyone gets to face more than one opponent. (Double elim. to a winner)
  • Sleeves, a single belt, gloves, and wrist wraps are legal. Cleats are prohibited. Boots are recommended because regular shoes may blow out. It happened people, it happened.

The Atlas Stones

  • 75 sec to load 5 atlas stones (4 for LWW). Tacky is not allowed. Send angry letters by email please.
  • Implements must be lifted in order of lightest to heaviest
  • Stones will be loaded onto 55gal barrels
  • Fastest time wins. Don’t finish? You’ll get credit for what you did accomplish. See? I’m not so bad.

Timber Wagon Deadlift

  • 60sec to complete as many reps as possible in a “progressive” format. This means weight is added each rep (in the form of volunteers tossing weight plates onto a loading pin). Must wait for “down” command.
  • Weight will be added 8 times. Each rep will have approximately 30 pounds added. Once the final weight is reached, athletes may rep out that top weight. You will also receive a handshake, get your picture in the paper, and probably an invitation to meet the President of the United States because anyone that completes all 9 reps will become a national hero.
  • I do not know what the exact weight will be so please don’t ask. It is hard to quantify what a wagon full of logs and fire wood weighs. We will test it to make sure it’s challenging but appropriate. The weights listed are BALLPARK weights. *It has tested to exact weights listed above in the chart*
  • This will be parallel handles, and set above standard height roughly 16-18in.
  • Sleeves, one belt, and straps legal. No suits, cranes, forklifts, or hydraulic floor jacks.

General Rules/Usual Mouser Stuff

  • In the event of a tie in the final standings, 1st place finishes will decide the winner. If there is still a tie, then 2nd place finishes will be the determinant, and so on. If a tie cannot be broken this way, athletes will compete head to head in one final pole push match to determine the winner.
  • Sportsmanship is expected and required. This is the greatest sport in the world, let’s keep it that way.
  • There will be a pre-event prayer. No one is expected to participate, so please do not feel obligated. All we ask is to be respectful of those that do or do not wish to participate.
  • This is a drug free contest. If you are juiced feel free to come cheer on your buddies but please do not bother to sign up.
  • If you have a question, please ask! I would rather take a minute to clarify something than to see someone have a poor showing due to a misunderstanding.
